MICHIGAN CELTIC CLASSIC 16th ANNUAL FALL HIGHLAND DANCE COMPETITION

SCOTDANCE USA 2024 APPROVED COMPETITION - OPEN TO US & INTERNATIONAL DANCERS

Competition Schedule:

Doors to Endeavor Middle School (22505 26 Mile Rd, Ray, MI 48096) will be open at 8am. Although doors will be unlocked prior to 8am, we are not allowed to have attendees in the building until 8am. Thanks for your assistance on this. 

Registration for Primary, Beginner and Novice competitions will take place from 8:00am-8:45am with dancing beginning at 9am. Dancing will begin with Primary Pas de Basques, followed by Beginner & Novice Flora then Primary Pas de Basques and High Cuts. Remaining dances to be danced in order listed on entry.

Registration for the Choreography competition will take place from 8:15-8:45am or 11:45am-12:15pm with the choreography competition starting at the conclusion of the morning dancing (approximately 12:30pm). Choreography max of 1:30 for solos, 2:00 for duet & group. Please email music to [email protected] by November 16, 2024.

Intermediate & Premier registration will take place from 1:45-2:15pm with the competition starting at the conclusion of the choreography awards (approximately 2:30pm) starting with the Intermediate Barracks and Premier Measure. Afternoon competition & awards scheduled to be concluded at approximately 6pm.

Awards
Medals will be awarded in all groups up to 6 places
Overall trophies and runner-up trophies will be awarded to the highest point winner in each age group Beginner-Premier.

Special awards to be given:

  • Most Promising Intermediate Dancer - selected by the judge from all Intermediate dancers who did not win the overall group trophy

  • Premier Dancer of the Day, selected by a dance off of a 4-step Fling between the winner from each Premier age group with 6+ competing dancers

Competition Rules:

  1. Competition will be conducted in accordance with the rules of the Royal Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing (RSOBHD).

  2. The judge’s decision is final.

  3. Age groups will be determined according to the number of entries and competitors’ ages are as of the day of the competition, November 23, 2024.

  4. Dancers first to enter shall be last to dance.

  5. Dancers must present their 2024 or 2025 registration card to register, dance and receive awards. No exceptions.

  6. Dancers must be in full costume to receive awards.

  7. Awards are given at the judge’s discretion.

  8. Dancers must be ready and appear when called or forfeit the chance to dance.

  9. Organizer reserves the right to make changes to the event or schedule so long as the change falls within the scope of RSOBHD Rules.

Additional Competition Information:

Dance numbers will be provided at registration.

No concessions will be provided on-site, but we will have our annual raffle table.

Highly recommending pre-purchased entry and program. Spectator admission $10/person 12 & over. Children under 12 enter free. Limited programs will be available on-site for purchase for $5 each (USD only). 

$5 of each entry will go to SDUSA-MW for USIR 2028. Entries close Saturday, November 2, 2024.

No live piper; recorded music. Afternoon dancers – please note, that the music we will be playing for the Intermediate & Premier competition will be from Peter Purvis Lilt & Lilt II.

Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) is approx 45 miles (1 hour drive)

Flint Airport (FNT) is approx 51 miles (45 minute drive)

We do not have a group block this year, but recommend the below hotels. All are conveniently located off the expressway, only a 10-15 minute drive to the competition venue and with plenty of restaurants nearby.
